Body spray vs eau de toilette vs eau de parfum

The difference is oil concentration. Body spray carries the least, which is why it smells clean and fresh, sits close to the skin and fades within a couple of hours. Eau de toilette carries more and lasts most of a working day. Eau de parfum carries the most and reads as a signature scent.

None of them is better. They do different jobs, and most men are best served by owning a body spray and one proper fragrance rather than two of either.

When body spray is the right choice

After the gym, after sport, in hot weather, or any time you want to feel fresh without projecting scent into a shared space. It is designed to be applied generously across the body rather than dabbed on pulse points.

It is also the sensible option in offices, gyms and on public transport where a strong eau de parfum is genuinely unwelcome. Reach for the spray in the morning and save the parfum for the evening.

How to make it last a bit longer

Apply to skin that is clean and slightly moisturised. Fragrance of any strength fades faster on dry skin, so a body butter or lotion underneath extends it noticeably.

Spray from about fifteen centimetres and cover the chest, shoulders and back rather than only the neck. Do not rub it in — that crushes the top notes.

Layering with your fragrance

Layering works when the scent families agree. A fresh citrus body spray under a citrus or woody eau de toilette reinforces the scent. A sweet spray under a woody parfum fights it and both end up muddled.

The safest approach is to use an unscented or very lightly scented body product as your base and let the fragrance do the work. Ask us in salon and we will tell you honestly whether two things you own layer well.
