Can you swim, go to the gym and sleep with a hair system?

Quick answer

Yes. Once the bond has had 24 to 48 hours to cure, you can swim, train and sleep in a hair system. Chlorine, salt water and heavy sweat mean it needs rinsing and cleaning more often, and may shorten how long each system lasts. We choose the base and attachment around your lifestyle.

I swim twice a week and go to the gym most days. Is a hair system even an option for me?
Yes. Men who swim and train wear hair systems all the time. The key is choosing the right base and attachment for your routine, and giving a fresh bond time to set.
How long do I have to wait after it's fitted?
Give the bond 24 to 48 hours to cure before swimming, a hard gym session or a very hot shower. After that you can carry on as normal.
What about chlorine?
Chlorine and salt water are hard on any hair, including a system. Wet your hair with clean water before you get in so it absorbs less, and rinse and wash it afterwards. Swimming regularly can shorten a system's life and may mean slightly more frequent maintenance.
Sweating at the gym?
Sweat is fine day to day, but it builds up under the base, which is why maintenance every three to six weeks matters: we clean the scalp and re-bond it. For men who train hard we often suggest an attachment that copes well with sweat, and we tell you honestly how that affects wear time.
And sleeping?
Sleep as normal. A satin or silk pillowcase reduces friction on the hair, which helps it last. Book a consultation at our Mortlake SW14 salon and tell us about your training and swimming, and we'll plan the system around them.
